An introduction to Marine biosecurity & preventing the spread of invasive species

As boaties you could say our relationship with marine biosecurity is complicated. Marine pests take many forms and spread in a bunch of ways. As boaties, we have a responsibility to make sure that we don't carry hitchhikers - whether on our hull, underwater fittings, or on our fishing and dive gear, anchor chains or holding tanks.

Making that happen is easier said than done, so OBC and the marine biosecurity team at Auckland Council invite you to a free event to help demystify marine biosecurity and to provide advice and info about how we can help stop the spread of marine pests.

Learn:

  • Why marine biosecurity is important
  • Pets, pests and biodiversity on our islands
  • Understanding where and how you can clean your boat safely
  • The latest big threat: Caulerpa
